'In Thy Light'
From Simple Beginnings
In the 1960s, a small group of passionate Christians from the Dutch Reformed Church set out to establish a school that would offer a Christ-centred alternative to public education. After years of planning, fundraising, prayer, volunteer working bees, and building, their vision became a reality. On 1 February 1977, 56 students began classes at Goodna Christian School, the first interdenominational Christian school in Queensland.
From these humble beginnings, the school continued to grow, and in 1995 its name was changed to Westside Christian College.
‘In Thy Light’—three simple yet profound words—have appeared on the Westside Christian College crest since its inception, expressing the College’s calling and purpose. In 2017, the crest was refreshed, replacing the traditional shield with the lighthouse. This change marked more than a visual update; it reflected a strategic and spiritual shift—from being a school set apart on the hill to becoming a lighthouse within the community, actively sharing God’s light with all.
Today, Westside Christian College is a vibrant and flourishing community of more than 1,300 students and their families, drawn from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and life circumstances. At the heart of the College are its people—past and present—whose faith, dedication, and service have shaped a culture marked by distinctive character and an enduring sense of belonging.
In 2027, we look forward to celebrating Westside Christian College's 50th anniversary—an extraordinary milestone in the life of our College.
40th Year CatchUp magazine
In 2017, Westside Christian College produced a commemorative magazine that honoured the Lord’s faithfulness and the many people who have invested prayer, hard work, and tenacity to provide fertile ground for such a vibrant community today.
Please enjoy looking through this publication. It reflects our rich appreciation for so many different experiences of current students, past students, College families, and staff, and showcases heart-warming glimpses into the lives of the many people connected with Westside.
