At only eight years old, Westside Christian College student Tayla Weatherhog has already gone toe-to-toe with the best in the world, on their own turf.
For more than two weeks in early March, the cheerleading sensation stepped, leapt and tumbled her way into Queensland Cheer Elite history, competing against more than 25,000 at the NCA All-Star National Championships. The National Cheerleading Association’s competition is the premiere event for elite cheerleaders.
Taking the stage in both Dallas and Los Angeles, she comes back with a wealth of experience and a drive to pursue the sport that brings her so much joy. Blaine, Tayla’s mother, reflects, “she had a blast!” adding, “although the team didn’t place, it was an amazing experience.” An indicator of future promise, this was a monumental experience for someone so young.
The young student was inspired after watching her cousin perform. Now a talented performer in her own right, the vivacious blonde’s eyes twinkle as she reflects on her favourite aspects of competition, “smiling, tumbling and being the flyer,” adding, “I loved competing with other people and seeing snow for the first time.” Her family nod in agreement, “We are so proud of Tayla.”
Westside Christian Colleges congratulates Tayla on an outstanding achievement.
