Matteao Giacomodonato Keeps His Eyes On The Sky

Matteao Giacomodonato in Year 12 has achieved a rare leadership position in the Australian Airforce Cadets.

Matteao is in his fifth year at the AAF Cadets and has worked his way up to the highest role of leadership possible for someone his age – a Cadet Under Officer (CUO).  This remarkable achievement reflects five years of hard work and commitment. Balancing hours of rigorous training and courses with his school work have been both rewarding and challenging. Matteao regularly leads groups of over 50 juniors each Friday evening as they seek to make a difference in the world.  His tasks involve leadership and activity planning to train younger cadets and also lead the parade. This discipline shines in every aspect of his life.

As a young man Matteao has overcome a number of obstacles on his way to achieve his dream, and Westside is entirely pleased to congratulate Matteao on this incredible

achievement.  His dream is to join the ADFA and become a member of the 219 Squadron is one step closer.

Head of Secondary Mr Josh Mansfield said ‘Matteao is a humble and quiet achiever.  We knew he was working away quietly to improve and grow as a leader, but this achievement is something special.  The discipline and commitment it takes to reach this level is great and yet Matteao remains humble and servant-hearted.  We all get to sit back and watch him refine his leadership skills here at school knowing that he has big dreams to contribute to society even further as he graduates school later this year.

Matteao will be a frontrunner in the race to win the Year 12 Australian Defence Force Leadership award later this year at our Annual Presentation Evening.

We wish Matteao all the best and look forward to seeing what his future holds.
