If you like waking up before the sunrise, completing army-style obstacle courses at 6am and think pushing yourself to the limit is all in a day’s work, you might be a FIT Chick.
This year fifty-four girls joined thirteen female staff to embark upon another challenging year in Fit Chicks. In 2018, the theme was courage and the girls were given opportunities to challenge themselves and show courage in their friendships, faith, and taking control of their mental and physical health.
Throughout the term physical challenges included army week, dancing, killer stair week and many circuits. Each of the girls took the opportunity to develop their fitness, friendships and tenacity. These are life-long skills that help women realise the potential in themselves.
We were truly blessed this year with some amazing breakfasts and afternoon teas thanks to Mrs Hides. A FIT Chick doesn’t just exercise with her friends, she eats with them, too. There’s nothing quite like a FIT Chick feed.
Joshua Mansfield, Head of Secondary is understandably proud of the work of staff and students. He comments, “I love the fact that girls are seeing clearly modelled to them what it looks like to live as a woman who loves God, and having heaps of fun at the same time.“
Rugged up on the oval, watching Year 8 students leap between tyres Lana Harch, FIT Chicks Co-ordinator reflects “I arrive at work early on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to be greeted by a colourful and excited group of girls who are challenging themselves to get fitter – in many different ways.“
The culmination of events each year is always the highlight. After ten weeks of working on our fitness we all travelled to Forest Lake and had a team challenge of walking/running 150km within the given time frame. Each group banded together and achieved this challenge and many even exceeded it.
FIT Chicks is about sisterhood. Community. On our final night parents came and celebrated the girls’ achievements with a lovely dinner, presentations and a bush dance. The 2018 year of Fit Chicks was incredibly challenging and all the girls rose to the occasion and developed their fitness, integrity and tenacity.
FIT CHICKS stands alongside BOBS as building resilience in our students and modelling to them a life lived serving Jesus as King. It’s powerful and exciting, and students look forward to these programs each year with great anticipation.
