The (Orange) Sky’s the Limit

On Friday afternoon, hundreds of Westside students jumped, flipped and stormed their way across a world of inflatables, all in support of Orange Sky Laundry.

Orange Sky Laundry and Westside Christian College have always had a strong relationship. The service is an organisation assisting the poor and marginalised in our community.  They have mobile vans – a washing machine/dryer in one and a hot shower in the other – which they drive around Ipswich, and beyond, stopping to allow the homeless the opportunity to wash and dry their clothes and to have a shower.

Organised by Westside Christian College’s student-led social advocacy group, Generation Justice, the

Students enjoy an afternoon of games and friendly competition, raising money for a cause.

afternoon was far more than fun and games.

On the afternoon, more than 250 students flooded the Top Oval and spent their loose change on 8 jumping castles, a side show alley, food (provided by the PFA) and a dunking machine.  It was a colourful and enjoyable afternoon with the event raising $1650 for Orange Sky Laundry.

Head of Secondary, Joshua Mansfield beamed, “The organisation gives these people a sense of dignity and, more importantly, company and conversation.  Orange Sky is the organisation the Student Executive and Generation Justice groups decided to fundraise for in Term 1.”

The students involved in running the event were well-organised, enthusiastic and excited about the opportunity to bring the Secondary community to come together and raise money while having heaps of fun doing it.

Westside Christian College wishes to thank Mark Culley of Brisbane Jumping Castles for donating 8 Jumping Castles and four staff members for free.  A monumental gift which will ultimately benefit the people of Ipswich.

And finally thanks must go to PFA for providing food and supporting the event.  To find out more information about our PFA and how you can join in the fun, check it out here: https://www.wcc.qld.edu.au/my-westside/parents-and-friends-association/
